# Lovren on how he punishes himself for making mistakes

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren admits he doesn’t talk to people for days after whenever he makes a mistake.

In an interview with [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11241885/liverpool-defender-dejan-lovren-reveals-the-punishment-he-puts-on-himself-after-making-mistakes), Lovren says he sees his silence as a form of punishment for any high-profile errors.

> I’m my biggest critic of myself when I make mistakes, I don’t talk to anyone for a couple of days – this is me. This is the punishment for myself.
>
> What do other people think? I’m not bothered. What’s important is what the manager says because he is the man in charge of me. If he’s positive about me then that’s confirmation for myself that I’m one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Lovren struggled at Wembley against Spurs earlier this season and came in for some heavy criticism.

The Croatian has become known for making errors in big games this season and has struggled to hold down a place in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The arrival of Virgil van Dijk cast doubts over his long-term future at the club, with van Dijk and Joel Matip looking like the most natural centre-back pairing.

Lovren has started on 18 occasions in the Premier League this season and the Croatian international played alongside van Dijk against Spurs in the dramatic 2-2 draw at Anfield.

In what was a much-improved performance compared to the reverse fixture, Lovren may well have given Klopp a decision to make at the back.
