# Man City make Liverpool-linked Diego Carlos their top summer target

Liverpool were [linked with a move](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/05/22/liverpool-show-interest-in-sevilla-defender-diego-carlos/) to sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos a few weeks ago but if the Reds are still interested in the centre-back, then they may have to battle Manchester City for his signature.

As reported by [James Ducker and Mike McGrath of The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/07/16/diego-carlos-emerges-leading-centre-half-target-pep-guardiola/), City have identified the 27-year-old as the player they’d like to come in to add to what has been an under-performing defence this season.

Sevilla only signed Carlos last summer for £13.6million, but they could be tempted to cash in on him if City, or any other club, are willing to make a significant offer.

If Dejan Lovren leaves Liverpool this summer then The Reds will need to go into the market to sign a replacement and Carlos could be a good option.

However, if City are in the mix too, then it might be difficult for Liverpool to complete a deal.

Pep Guardiola’s side will almost certainly be able to out-bid Liverpool for the defender and furthermore, he’s more likely to get regular game time at The Etihad as City are looking for a starter, whereas Liverpool seem to have settled on Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez as their preferred central defensive partnership.
