# Liverpool Player Ratings: Manchester United (A)

There was yet more misery for [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/25/these-liverpool-fans-werent-impressed-with-alisson-against-man-united/) at the start of 2021 as the Reds went [crashing out of the FA Cup](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9172613/Manchester-United-vs-Liverpool-FA-Cup-fourth-round-live-result.html) at the fourth round stage against bitter foes Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Despite the result, there were positives for [Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/23/liverpool-dealt-potential-blow-in-attempts-to-sign-kylian-mbappe/) to take from the performance as the Reds showed improvements from their recent run of form, with [Mohamed Salah looking especially sharp](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/55772667) in front of goal once again.

Unfortunately, the [central defensive quandary](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool/manchester-united-klopp-henderson-fabinho-b1788677.html) continued to cause issues for Klopp’s side as teenager Rhys Williams missed an opportunity to clear prior to United’s second goal.

Liverpool’s recent FA Cup successes, or rather [lack thereof](https://talksport.com/football/fa-cup/470307/jurgen-klopp-liverpool-fa-cup-record/), means elimination from the competition won’t sting for too long, albeit against their greatest rivals.

With vital [Premier League clashes on the horizon](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2020-21/first-team/fixtures-and-results) and the Champions League coming back into focus, the English champions can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves for long.
