# Mane scoops Liverpool’s Player of the Month award for January

Liverpool confirmed on Friday that Sadio Mane scooped the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award following his impressive displays in January.

The Senegalese attacker has been instrumental in helping the Reds maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table, with Manchester City still breathing down their necks.

As per a report from the [club’s official website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/338528-sadio-mane-liverpool-player-of-the-month-january?), Mane pipped fellow attackers Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to the award and spoke of his happiness regarding the Liverpool supporters’ recognition for his efforts. He said:

> An award is always motivation, but I am always motivated as a player, to be honest. I am happy that the fans have voted for me and I would say to them we’re going to try to do everything to make this season special.

Mane found the net on two occasions in January. He scored as the Reds defeated Crystal Palace 4-3 at Anfield and was also in the goals as Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a 1-1 draw against West Ham United away from home.

The former Southampton star highlighted the importance of consistency as Liverpool bid to win the Premier League this season. He said:

> I just try to do what I can. As a team, I think there were a couple of difficult games for us because we like to win. But that’s part of football.

> We have to keep going, work harder and harder and get the results. We try to push as hard as we can and we still had \[mainly\] positive results.
