# Mane surprised by referee decisions at Palace

Sadio Mane has spoken publicly after being cautioned for diving against Crystal Palace.

As reported by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sadio-mane-helping-liverpools-mohamed-14482043?_ga=2.183043046.1141948264.1522573536-2120095286.1522051470), Mane says he was not worried about the referee’s decisions.

> Honestly, I was thinking he was going to give a penalty, he didn’t give it but I was not focused on that because it’s part of what can happen. I could have been lucky but it’s part of football. I was doing my best and in the end I scored a goal.

The Liverpool attacker was at the forefront of two key decisions during the Reds’ 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.

Mane was booked for diving after being brought down by James McArthur in the first half.

He was then lucky to avoid a second red card after picking up the ball, despite the referee not blowing for a foul.

Mane was certain he had been fouled by Andros Townsend in the build-up to Liverpool’s attack and quite literally, took matters into his own hands.

> I was not worried (about the handball). I was surprised he didn’t give the foul but in my mind it was not a red card or something because I was sure that this was a foul.

> I’m someone who believes in myself, and I believe in the qualities of my team-mates. I know what they can do. At 1-0 down I was thinking ‘we can come back’. We did the job.

He made up for the booking by scoring Liverpool’s equalising goal before Mohamed Salah snatched all three points at the death.

The win keeps the pressure on Manchester United in second, who lead Liverpool by two points with a game in hand.
