# Many Liverpool fans sceptical over links with Kalidou Koulibaly

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/06/quiz-how-much-do-you-know-about-liverpool-records-throughout-history/) have long been earmarked as a potential destination for Napoli star [Kalidou Koulibaly](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/05/christian-falk-confirms-liverpool-interest-in-kalidou-koulibaly/) and on Friday reliable journalist Christian Falk confirmed the interest remains active.

Given the tribulations in the heart of the defence this season that have lead to Jurgen Klopp using [upwards of 15 central defensive partnerships](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9201239/Jurgen-Klopp-used-16-different-centre-pairing-one-successful.html), the Reds are expected to bolster their options before the start of next season.

With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all [likely to be back in contention](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-injury-news-van-dijk-23254586) at the start of next term, signing the 29-year-old, 30 in June, would raise serious questions over who would be the preferred pairing.

With [274 Napoli appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalidou-koulibaly/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/93128), many of which have [come in the Champions League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalidou-koulibaly/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/93128/verein/6195), Koulibaly is a first-class operator and would add to Liverpool’s solidity.

Despite all the positives, Kopites have been rather less enthused by the idea in their reactions on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1367863383949774849).

Here’s why…

> Twitter: @TheAnfieldTalk @cfbayern Why would we sign him. He’s finished. Go for a young prospect in Konate or Caleta Car (@Dylanm200269)
