# Markovic discusses THAT shot

Although Lazar Markovic scored the decisive goal in last weekend’s Premier League meeting with Sunderland, he astonished everyone by not scoring what would have been a serious Goal of the Season contender.

When the ball broke out to the Serb, a shot (never mind a shot on target) looked unlikely; however Markovic attempted a spectacular acrobatic effort that clattered off the woodwork and rolled out of play via Costel Pantillimon.

Having picked up the technique from watching his peers, he felt inclined to have a go. “*I learned from the other players because I saw them do it. I had a go in the match*”, the 20-year old said.

“*If it had gone in, it would have been the best goal of my career*,” the Serb added. “*I haven’t seen anyone try it like I did. \[The technique\] is very hard because maybe if I tried 10 times, I might not have scored a goal. But I think I was lucky as well*.”

However, seeing an almost perfectly executed shot come crashing off the bar, you could have excused Markovic for dwelling on it for a short period, but the level-headed midfielder didn’t let it affect his performance, “*I was hopeful that it would be a goal. Nothing really goes through your head, you go for it. It didn’t go in, but what can you do? You carry on.*“

Overall, it was a man of the match performance from Markovic and the former Benfica player is high on confidence after scoring his first league goal for Liverpool.

Speaking of his goal, Markovic said: “*It was an unbelievable feeling. I have waited quite a while for that – I was hoping it would happen and I was absolutely delighted that it did.*“

We hope it proves to be the catalyst for Markovic as he seems to be adapting to the demands of his new environments.
