# Michael Owen lavishes praise on ‘unbelievable’ Thiago

Former [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/01/tony-adams-suggests-arsenal-shouldve-signed-wonderful-joe-gomez/) striker Michael Owen has heaped praise on [Thiago](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/01/paul-scholes-claims-thiago-lacks-the-energy-to-thrive-for-liverpool/) after his [performance against Sheffield United](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezPD8--6fwI)on Sunday evening.

Having come in for criticism,[including from Owen](https://metro.co.uk/2021/02/04/michael-owen-criticises-samey-liverpool-trio-thiago-gini-wijnaldum-and-james-milner-after-brighton-defeat-14020371/), after what was an [inauspicious start](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool/thiago-jurgen-klopp-didi-hamann-b1789372.html) to his career on Merseyside, the Spaniard has begun to turn a corner as a Red.

Signed from Bayern Munich with a [trophy cabinet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago/erfolge/spieler/60444)most successful clubs would be proud of, Thiago struggled to adapt on his return to the side following a [nasty knee injury](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool/thiago-alcantara-injury-update-latest-b1764027.html) as Jurgen Klopp’s side imploded with absentees. Owen told [BT Sport](https://www.bt.com/sport) (via [the Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/michael-owen-thiago-alcantara-liverpool-23586496)):

> ”This fella \[Thiago\] just makes me want to watch football 24 hours a day, the way he looks around, the way he gives it the eyes, there’s nobody in the Premier League, nobody, that plays like him. He’s playing a different type of game than everyone else. His disguise on passes is unbelievable.”

Despite not hitting the heights of his best form, the 29-year-old has earned an [average Sofascore rating of 7.10](https://www.sofascore.com/player/thiago-alcantara/53825)– epitomised by a 90 per cent pass success rate.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Judging Thiago this season given the[tribulations suffered at Liverpool](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-thiago-alcantara-quality-storm-19844295) was always going to be a short-sighted viewpoint.

His class is undoubted and his experience[amongst the upper echelons of world football](https://fifpro.org/en/industry/world-11/the-fifa-fifpro-men-s-world-11-of-2020)mean he is always likely to come good for Liverpool.

Expect to [see the best out of the cultured midfielder](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/what-is-thiago-alcantara-s-best-position-bayern-munich-next-xavi-512856.jsp) when he has the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho alongside him taking away some of the defensive responsibilities.
