# Milner set to replace Moreno for Burnley clash

James Milner is expected to replace the under-fire Alberto Moreno at left-back for Saturday’s visit to Burnley, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly reluctant to dip into the transfer market.

The Reds have been linked with a whole host of left-backs, including German international Jonas Hector, PSV’s Jetro Willems, and Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi, throughout the summer transfer window amid Moreno’s struggles.

Moreno’s display in Sunday’s 4-3 win against Arsenal did little to dismiss the doubters as he conceded a penalty and was then arguably at fault for Theo Walcott’s opener.

Milner, who played at left-back during pre-season, missed the game with injury but is expected to be fit for the trip to Turf Moor, and a strong performance could see permanently occupy the role.

The 30-year old discussed the situation with Klopp over the summer, and says he will happily accept the challenge, even if it is not his preferred position.

As reported by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-left-back-alberto-moreno-11754186), Milner said:

> We had a conversation about it and I told him it’s not my favourite position and not one I particularly like playing, but he’s the manager and if he wants me to play there, I’ll play there. I don’t like playing there but I will give you the best that I can and if that’s needed, I will play there. The team comes first, always has, always will. Throughout my career you have to play in different positions. I’m probably a good player for a manager to have because I fill in in a number of positions.

Although Moreno has been subject of fierce criticism from fans and pundits alike, Klopp is said to be determined to work with the Spaniard on the training ground to eliminate his defensive weaknesses.

It is understood that, as it stands, Klopp will not be buying a new left-back, believing Milner is suitable for the role and viewing Moreno, Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez as sufficient cover when the latter returns from an Achilles injury.

Daniel Sturridge, meanwhile, could also feature against the newly-promoted side after a hip problem sidelined him on Sunday.
