# Milner set to return to action against West Ham

Liverpool have been handed a major boost with the news that James Milner is set to return to action against West Ham, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is making good progress towards making a comeback in the team.

The Reds’ vice-captain was suspended for the previous game against Leicester City following a red card against Crystal Palace.

[According to the Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/james-milner-set-liverpool-recall-15761012), the 20-year-old first-choice right-back is recovering well from the knee injury he suffered during the warm-up against Brighton.

However, he is not expected to be fit for the game against the Hammers but might feature against Bournemouth next Saturday.

With injuries still rife at the back, the expectation is that Milner will once again deputise at right-back against West Ham.

Manager Jurgen Klopp was hopeful that the small problems of few players, who even started on Wednesday, could be solved by the time the Reds play their next game.

The Reds boss gave an update to the [club’s official website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/336258-klopp-liverpool-fitness-update-west-ham-leicester):

> Hopefully, because Virg was ill, Hendo couldn’t really train, Gini couldn’t really train, so that’s all not 100 per cent positive.
>
> We had a couple of other problems and that’s how it is. Now we played that game and I didn’t hear anything so far \[in terms of other fitness issues\], nothing else happened, so that means I think a few players will come back or are in better physical shape again and that helps, of course.

Liverpool are currently leading at the top of the Premier League table by five points. They play West Ham at the London Stadium on Monday night.
