# Milner wanted Rodgers in charge

On Thursday morning, Liverpool announced the agreement to sign James Milner but according to *The Guardian,* the move was in jeopardy whilst Brendan Rodgers’ future was in doubt.

With Liverpool faltering over the finishing line last season, Rodgers’ job was on the line and much would depend on the end-of-season review which was held this week.

Whilst in discussions with the club, Milner sought assurances from Liverpool that their manager would keep his job before deciding to join.

It is understood that the Englishman was very keen to work with Rodgers and parting company with him could have seen Milner ply his trade at another club next season.

Two days before Milner’s agreement was announced, reports emerged about the positive talks held between Rodgers, Mike Gordon and Tom Werner.
