# Naby Keita could join Liverpool early

RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita could join Liverpool in January, according to Bundesliga expert, Lee Price, as per the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-news-transfer-latest-live-13564568).

Price believes that Liverpool could be able to spend more money on the player, depending on Leipzig’s Champions League and domestic performances, in order to bring the midfielder to Anfield in January.

> Cornered by his release clause of £48m kicking in next summer, the German club always knew that they’d have to come to an agreement this summer to maximise their income, hence charging Liverpool a premium to do the deal now.

> This makes sense for all parties – unless Keita picks up an injury.

> There is a chance, depending on Leipzig’s domestic and Champions League progress, that Liverpool could pay a further premium to capture the midfielder in January.

> The deal also suits the Reds, as it safeguards them against Emre Can’s expiring contract – with the German expected to complete a move to Juventus at the end of the season.

The Reds have already agreed a deal that will see the player join the club next summer after being unable to convince the Bundesliga runners up to sell this summer.

Leipzig were desperate to keep hold of Keita after qualifying for the Champions League for the first time last season.

With Emre Can’s future looking bleak at Liverpool, Keita’s potential early arrival would be a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp’s men, especially if, like many expect them to do this season, they’re challenging for the title.

Juventus have held a long standing interest in Can and are being linked with moves for the player in January, where they will be able to open negotiations over a summer deal.
