# Naby Keita says he’ll ask Timo Werner to join Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita says he’ll attempt to persuade his former teammate Timo Werner to join the Reds this summer if the forward decides to leave RB Leipzig.

The German international has been linked with a move to Anfield for a number of seasons, although no bids have ever been reported.

The 22-year-old is out of contract next summer and if he fails to agree a new deal, there’s a chance that Leipzig will sell him to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Keita, who joined the Reds from Leipzig ahead of the 2018/19 season, told Sport Bild, via [sportbuzzer](https://www.sportbuzzer.de/artikel/naby-keita-sadio-mane-rb-leipzig-timo-werner-fc-liverpool-transfer-wechsel/), that he’ll have a word with the German should he decide the time is right to leave the Bundesliga side.

He said:

> We played very well together in Leipzig and he was one of my best friends. It’s clear that should he change, I’d ask Timo to come to Liverpool with us.

The same publication also has quotes from Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, who praises Werner and says that he’d be welcomed to Melwood with open arms.

> I like his way of playing: very powerful, good finisher, always \[plays\] with 100 per cent \[effort\]. If he wants to join us, we \[would\] welcome him into our team.
