# Napoli name asking price for Liverpool-linked Nikola Maksimovic

Rumoured previous [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/28/journalist-claims-liverpool-are-in-a-better-situation-at-centre-back/) target [Nikola Maksimovic](https://readeverton.com/2020/12/03/nikola-maksimovic-could-join-everton-on-free-transfer/) has been placed on the transfer market for a reported value of £9m, according to Italian outlet [Il Mattino](https://www.ilmattino.it/sport/sscnapoli/napoli_maksimovic_tottenham_west_ham-5726085.html).

The 29-year-old Napoli centre-back was [linked with a move](https://twitter.com/SkySportsNews/status/1349046149244723211) to Anfield earlier in the transfer window but any such move has failed to materialise as of yet.

However, the report from Italy claims that the [Serbian international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/nationalmannschaft/spieler/124715/verein_id/3438) is free to leave the Serie A club for £9m, and London-based Premier League trio Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham are [also interested](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/tottenham-transfer-news-spurs-consider-summer-swoop-for-nikola-maksimovic).

There is [speculation](https://onefootball.com/en/news/lazio-considering-summer-move-for-expiring-napoli-defender-nikola-maksimovic-32220655) that Napoli are reluctant to see Maksimovic leave this month, but with only[months remaining on the defender’s contract](https://onefootball.com/en/news/inter-preparing-contract-offer-for-napoli-defender-nikola-maksimovic-italian-media-claims-31782936), this window presents the final opportunity for the club to receive a fee.

Maksimovic has made eight Serie A appearances this season, with an average [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nikola-maksimovic/68076) match rating of 6.94 under Gennaro Gattuso, the majority of which have [come in recent weeks](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/124715/saison/2020/wettbewerb/IT1/verein/6195) after missing out on much of the early part of the season.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

The clock is ticking for Liverpool to bring in a centre-back this month, and it is looking likely that Jurgen Klopp will be left to [make do with what he already has](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) at his disposal.

A cut-price deal for a player of the ilk of Maksimovic, who has a [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/profil/spieler/124715) value 50% greater than the reported asking price, presents the ideal solution for Liverpool as the transfer window draws to a close.

With an [abundance of top-flight experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/124715) and a relatively [unscathed injury record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/verletzungen/spieler/124715) of late, the towering Serbian could be the ideal candidate to aid the current defensive plight until the end of the season at least.
