# Nat Phillips says his goal-line clearance meant more than his first goal for Liverpool

Liverpool cruised out [3-0 winners](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12311046/burnley-0-3-liverpool-reds-go-fourth-into-driving-seat-for-champions-league-football) over Burnley last night in the Premier League, taking them to [fourth place](https://www.premierleague.com/tables).

It was an impressive performance from Jurgen Klopp’s squad with one player standing out in particular.

Nat Phillips has seen his chances grow for the Reds this season after some [high-profile injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/sperrenundverletzungen/verein/31).

Yesterday, the defender scored his [first-ever goal](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/381527/History/Nathaniel-Phillips) not just for the club, but in professional football.

It was a fine moment for the 24-year-old, who was asked about the goal during his [post-match interview](https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1395127100999352321).

However, Phillips gave a surprising response when asked about whether his goal or his [goal-line clearance](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12311046/burnley-0-3-liverpool-reds-go-fourth-into-driving-seat-for-champions-league-football) was more important…

As you can see from the clip tweeted by [Sky Sports](https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL), the defender didn’t seem too bothered about the goal.

There is no doubt he is happy to have scored, but he seemed more impressed with his clearance off the line.

As he states, his job is to defend and it is understandable that he’d be more concerned about a clean sheet.

It was a fine performance from Phillips who also [received](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12311046/burnley-0-3-liverpool-reds-go-fourth-into-driving-seat-for-champions-league-football) the Man of the Match award for his display.

The defender has really stepped up to the mark and it seems as though he is improving more every week.

Hopefully, this won’t be the last we see of Phillips and next season he will continue to feature.

There is a suspicious feeling that a partnership of him and Virgil van Dijk could be more than impressive.
