# Noel Whelan lauds ‘brilliant’ Liverpool sensation Harvey Elliott

Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has been lauding [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/10/virals-liverpool-reportedly-lead-race-to-sign-renato-sanches/) youngster [Harvey Elliott](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/02/virals-sheffield-united-remain-interested-in-harvey-elliott-loan-switch/).

The 18-year-old has returned to the Reds following a [successful loan spell](https://www.sofascore.com/player/harvey-elliott/955245) in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers last season.

Having featured heavily during pre-season for Jurgen Klopp’s side the [England youth international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harvey-elliott/nationalmannschaft/spieler/565822/verein_id/21340) is expected to play a prominent role in the upcoming campaign.

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/whelan-in-awe-of-liverpool-new-signing-after-footage-emerges-of-elliott/), Whelan was full of praise for the teenager’s ability and attitude.

> Elliott has been like a new signing for Liverpool in pre-season. Talk about players you want to have at your club, he is one of them. He is a brilliant young player and a good human being. A player who loves his football and is showing great maturity at a young age. You are always representing your club and you can see with the way he plays and acts that he understands that. He understands what it means to be a Liverpool player. He is loving his life right now and fighting hard to be a part of the first team after a great spell on loan at Blackburn. Elliott is exactly the sort of player you need in and around the club.

Klopp has recently [alluded](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/440202-jurgen-klopp-reaction-athletic-club-anfield-friendly) to an enhanced responsibility for Elliott, suggesting the starlet could operate in midfield, the forward line and as a striker.

Last season for ex-Fulham academy prospect [scored seven goals and registered 11 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harvey-elliott/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/565822) in 41 league outings.

There’s few who would doubt Liverpool have a truly gifted talent on their hands in Elliott.
