# ‘On the move’ – Liverpool defender now likely to rejoin former team

**As we edge closer to the Premier League season, Andoni Iraola is expected to fine-tune his Liverpool squad.**

A handful of young players have already left, while a few others like Ifeanyi Ndukwe are expected to follow suit in the coming days.

The early days of pre-season were interesting as many young players were included in the US tour as senior players were missing.

That isn’t the case anymore, and if reports from England are to be believed, Liverpool youngster Calum Scanlon is set for another loan move.

## Calum Scanlon tipped to return to Cardiff City

Scanlon played 91 minutes for Liverpool in the US tour and was cut from the squad after a handful of senior players became available for selection.

The young defender spent the second half of last season at Cardiff City and could well return to the club, according to [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7503457/2026/08/11/enzo-fernandez-transfer-latest-chelsea-manchester-city-arsenal-liverpool-man-utd-dealsheet/?source=user_shared_article&smid=ta-ios-share).

An excerpt from the article reads: “Several youngsters will be loaned out but not all, before the start of the season, as they may be needed as cover.

> Cardiff City are interested in re-signing last season’s loanee, Calum Scanlon.\
> \
> The Liverpool left-back made eight appearances after joining on loan in January.\
> \
> Would you take the 21-year-old back?\

“Calum Scanlon has interest from both Cardiff City — where he spent the second half of last season on loan — and Sheffield Wednesday. He’s likely to be among the first on the move.”

Liverpool already have Kostas Tsimikas and Milos Kerkez at left-back, so we can’t see Scanlon get any game time next season if he decides to remain at the club.
