# Origi ‘has to go’, claims former Reds defender Nicol

Former Liverpool full-back Steve Nicol has insisted the club must sell Belgian striker Divock Origi this summer.

Origi has been [linked with a surprise move to Barcelona](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/05/21/barcelona-preparing-surprise-move-for-divock-origi/) in recent days and looks set to be one of a number of Anfield exits this summer.

The 24-year-old, who joined the club from Lille back in 2014, has scored some vital goals for the Reds in their Premier League season and ongoing Champions League campaign.

Origi scored the winner in the Merseyside derby, as well as netting late on against Newcastle United in the Reds’ penultimate league fixture.

The out of favour forward also shone in Liverpool’s remarkable Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona, scoring twice at Anfield as the Reds turned around a three-goal first leg deficit.

However, despite Origi’s clutch moments over the past six months, former defender Nicol, talking to ESPN, cited by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-live-blog-news-transfers-16315806), believes that the striker ‘has to go’ this summer.

> He has to go. From a Liverpool point of view, they can’t let him go until they actually have a replacement because they’re pretty thin on the ground when it comes to front players or certainly front players with the quality that is needed.

> He will go, Liverpool will have been looking around and have some names.

Klopp is expected to offload numerous first team members this summer and bring in a few quality additions as Liverpool look to go one better in the Premier League next season.
