# OTD: Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson made a Reds debut

On this day (August 19) 2017, [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/19/virals-liverpool-throwing-the-kitchen-sink-at-mohamed-salah-deal/) full-back [Andy Robertson](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/18/virals-andy-robertson-makes-early-steps-towards-fitness/) made a debut for the Reds against Crystal Palace.

The Glasgow-born ace [played 90 minutes](https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Game/5601) as Jurgen Klopp’s side overcame a Frank de Boer led Palace side 1-0.

Signed from a recently relegated Hull City for £8million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40666486)), the now 27-year-old has been a revelation on Merseyside and helped the side towards a trophy-laden period.

Robertson, currently sidelined with an ankle ligament injury, has made [177 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andrew-robertson/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/234803) overall for the Anfield club – scoring [five and providing a remarkable 37 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andrew-robertson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/234803/verein/31) in the process.

Last season the Scotland captain [appeared in every Premier League game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andrew-robertson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/234803/verein/31) as well as 10 UEFA Champions League outings.

Signed with a market value of £6.3million, the [48 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andrew-robertson/nationalmannschaft/spieler/234803/verein_id/3380) Scotsman has seen an exponential rise to £58.8million in the ensuing four year period ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andrew-robertson/marktwertverlauf/spieler/234803)).

That rise underpins [Robertson’s rise to prominence](https://talksport.com/football/675134/andy-robertson-liverpool-stats-scotland-captain/) under Klopp as well as the ace’s importance to this Liverpool side.

From describing life as [‘rubbish’](https://twitter.com/andrewrobertso5/status/236918390793568256?lang=en) as a jobless teenager, the man heralded as a [‘role model’](https://talksport.com/football/479837/sir-kenny-dalglish-praises-role-model-andrew-robertson/) by no less than Sir Kenny Dalglish now boasts a Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup medal.

Quite the transformation.
