# OTD: Liverpool signed Mohamed Salah from AS Roma

On this day (June 22) in 2017, [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/22/sepp-van-den-berg-rejoins-preston-north-end-for-2021-22-season/) completed the signing of Egyptian winger [Mohamed Salah](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/03/virals-mohamed-salah-wants-to-represent-egypt-in-tokyo-olympics/) from AS Roma.

The Reds landed the lightning-quick forward for £34million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40345138)) on the back of two successful seasons in Italy scoring [34 goals and registering 22 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148455/verein/12) in 83 appearances.

This was to be Salah’s second venture in the Premier League, following a relatively [unsuccessful spell](https://www.premierleague.com/players/5178/Mohamed-Salah/overview) with Chelsea.

Dubbed the ‘Egyptian King’, the left-footed maestro wasted little time in making an impact on Merseyside as Salah [broke a host of records](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/club/liverpool/364/blog/post/3424350/mohamed-salahs-record-breaking-first-season-for-liverpool) during a perfect debut Anfield season.

Since then the ace has gone on to become a [phenomenon](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-superstar-steps-out-mohamed-18151182) for the club, contributing to glorious successes both as a team and individually.

The 29-year-old has shown no signs of allowing standards to drop as, despite struggles elsewhere in 2020/21, Salah still managed a superb [31 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdaten/spieler/148455) in 51 outings in all competitions – taking the overall tally to [125 goals and 47 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148455/verein/31) in 203 outings.

Not only a star at club level, but the forward has also truly become one of the leading players in world football with a staggering [43 goals in 69 caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148455/verein_id/3672) for Egypt.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

After [failing to live up to expectations](https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/oscar-de-bruyne-salah-failed-chelsea/tagicsa21u8z13nsxlmq5c9u0) at Stamford Bridge following a promising career at Basel, the arrival of Salah was rather tempered with uncertainty over what type of player Liverpool were getting.

Any doubts have well and truly been put to rest since however as the man [dubbed](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/mohamed-salah-continues-make-one-15670165) by many as a ‘one season wonder’, has gone on to prove everyone wrong time and time again.

Trophies and goals [aplenty](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/erfolge/spieler/148455) have come since the [£90million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148455) Egyptian became a Red – long may it continue.
