# OTD: Liverpool survived late drama to edge out QPR in EPL classic

On this day (October 19) in 2014, [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/19/virals-anthony-taylor-appointed-for-huge-liverpool-clash/) edged past QPR in a thriller at Loftus Road.

The Reds broke a club record when scoring in an [eighteenth consecutive top-flight](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014%E2%80%9315_Liverpool_F.C._season) away game before an enthralling finish in London.

Brendan Rodgers’ side had been ahead at the now Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium when Richard Dunne scored a [10th Premier League own goal](https://www.premierleague.com/players/1184/Richard-Dunne/stats).

But, in the final moments, Eduardo Vargas [equalised](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/29586620) for the hosts before Philippe Coutinho fired the Reds back into the lead.

Legendary captain Steven Gerrard repaid the earlier favour by [converting into his own net](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZZt2E4katE) before future Merseyside man Steven Caulker gave Liverpool all three points in the 95th minute with yet another own goal in a breathtaking match.

> On This Day in 2014, 4 goals were scored in the last 8 minutes of our 3-2 win against QPR. Crazy ending 🤯

Rodgers’ men ultimately [finished sixth](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=27&ha=-1) in the 2014/15 Premier League season having been runners up a year earlier under the Northern Irishman.

Another in a long line of [thrillers](https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2021/sep/11/the-joy-of-six-leeds-united-v-liverpool-premier-league-meetings) involving the Anfield club, albeit often for the wrong reasons.

Thankfully the days of [throwing away leads](https://www.premierleague.com/match/14170) seem to be behind the Reds for the most part and nervy finishes are hopefully a thing of the past.

Jurgen Klopp will hope for a smoother ride when his side [face Atletico Madrid and Manchester United](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2021-22/men/fixtures-and-results) this week.
