# James Pearce dismisses rumours over Liverpool’s interest in £15.3m-rated Premier League midfielder

This season was the last in a Liverpool shirt for outbound midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/transfers/spieler/49499/transfer_id/1546979) the club back in 2016, with his contract running out in the coming months.

With him [set to join Barcelona after reaching a verbal agreement](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/27/wijnaldum-barcelona-liverpool/), it is likely the club will look for a replacement.

However, despite [rumours over a move](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/27/virals-liverpool-reportedly-leading-the-race-for-yves-bissouma/), The Athletic’s James Pearce has ruled out on midfielder instantly.

According to the journalist, Liverpool are not targeting Brighton’s Yves Bissouma despite [recent reports](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/27/virals-liverpool-reportedly-leading-the-race-for-yves-bissouma/)…

The news, as cited by [LFCTransferRoom](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom) on Twitter clearly states that the Reds will not be making a move for the midfielder.

It was initially believed that the club viewed him as a possible replacement for Wijnaldum but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

One other thing that comes from the report is the situation regarding Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

This morning it was reported that [Jurgen Klopp was still faithful that the pair could still make an impact](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/28/klopp-keita-oxlade-chamberlain/) for the Reds.

From what Pearce is saying, Klopp believes that the pair are already adequate enough to fill the void.

Wijnaldum has become a central component to Klopp’s squad, [playing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/49499) 237 games for the club.

Whether the Reds will make a move for a midfielder this summer is unknown.

Bissouma may be ruled out, but there are plenty of other names such as [Houssem Aouar](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/01/liverpool-wijnaldum-aouar-transfer/) and [Florian Neuhaus](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/06/liverpool-offer-neuhaus/).

Either of the two would be ideal replacements, but only time will tell who the club aim to secure.
