# ‘Privilege’ – Ronald Araujo in awe of ‘spectacular’ Liverpool player

**Ronald Araujo has quickly become a bit of a cult hero at Liverpool after his loan move from Barcelona.**

The Uruguayan international has been stationed as a right-back but has delivered a string of assured displays despite playing in an unfamiliar position.

Araujo already has two goals and an assist to his name in Liverpool colours and has also defended resolutely, becoming the Reds’ first-choice right back ahead of Jeremie Frimpong.

And now, the Barcelona loanee has showered high praise on Virgil van Dijk, describing him as one of his idols.

“Well, honestly. It’s spectacular!” said Araujo via [TNT Sports Mexico](https://x.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/2113002735264051473?s=20) after the Reds’ 4-3 win against Villarreal.

“In the end, I’ve always said that he was one of my role models. Whenever I looked for a player to watch, I always looked up to him, always. And well, now it’s a privilege to be able to share a team with him, to learn.”

“I learn, I learn a lot, not just on the pitch, but also off it, his way of leading, his way of leading a group, a team, which I’ve had to do too, but I’m still learning that. And well, I’m also very happy, very happy to share this with him, to keep growing.

“It’s true that now I have to play a bit more out on the wing, but I never stop learning and watching what he does.”

It’s not hard to understand why Araujo idolises Van Dijk as the Dutchman is undoubtedly the greatest central defender of his generation.

Araujo is now playing as a right-back, but in terms of the fundamentals of defending, who better to learn from than the Liverpool skipper?
