# PSG chief issues Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe an ultimatum

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has told [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/26/i-just-love-him-sadio-mane-shows-his-appreciation-for-roberto-firmino/) target [Kylian Mbappe](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/18/liverpool-one-of-four-huge-clubs-in-the-race-to-sign-kylian-mbappe/) to make a decision over his future in an interview with [France Bleu](https://www.francebleu.fr/), as relayed by the [Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1402756/PSG-Leonardo-Kylian-Mbappe-Liverpool-Real-Madrid-transfer-news).

Leonardo, who also [played for and managed the Ligue 1 club](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leonardo/profil/trainer/8631), wants the 22-year-old to extend his contract in the French capital, which [expires in the summer of 2022](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/profil/spieler/342229), with the [Reds and Real Madrid keen](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/kylian-mbappe-leaves-liverpool-real-madrid-door-open-hat-trick-barcelona) on the superstar. The  Brazilian said:

> I have been surprised by some of the talk surrounding Mbappe, he still has a full season \[remaining on his contract\]. His status at the club is more and more important and he is constantly shouldering more responsibilities.
>
> Then there is consistency and his career path to take into account. We have been talking to him for some time and the time to make a decision has arrived.

Mbappe currently leads the way in the [Ligue 1 scoring charts](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/french-ligue-one/top-scorers) with 16 goals this season and also has [five Champions League goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/leistungsdaten/spieler/342229) this term.

Liverpool’s interest in the [World Cup-winning sensation](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/erfolge/spieler/342229) has been much speculated, with [praise coming from all directions](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/liverpool-are-a-machine-psg-star-mbappe-heaps-praise-on/oinvwhn3e3521d8moi8whwndd).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Jurgen Klopp will surely be looking for a fresh input into his [attacking ranks](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) this summer, with [Divock Origi likely to move on](https://thisisfutbol.com/2021/02/blogs/premier-league/liverpool-james-pearce-drops-transfer-claim-on-divock-origi/) to pastures new.

Whilst nobody can question whether Mbappe would be a statement signing from the Reds and would likely put them [back in major contention for titles](https://talksport.com/football/748912/mbappe-psg-fabregas-ferdinand-ibrahimovic-quotes-champions-league-man-united/) instantly, the astronomical transfer fee [makes it an unlikely deal](https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/money-isnt-there-liverpool-cant-spend-owen-fsg-transfer/k44v1u19p3ys1w2kyr79pjzof).

Valued at an astonishing £162m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/marktwertverlauf/spieler/342229), truthfully Liverpool’s only hope would be if the Frenchman rejected PSG’s contract advances and make his desire to join the Reds abundantly clear.
