# Pundit hails ‘world class’ Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/03/29/virals-liverpool-interested-in-fc-porto-midfielder-otavio/) defender Virgil van Dijk has been hailed as ‘world class’ by former Tottenham ace Darren Bent.

The 29-year-old has seemingly returned to [peak form](https://www.sofascore.com/player/virgil-van-dijk/151545) following a serious knee injury that ruled the Dutchman out for the majority of the 2020/21 campaign.

Having made a [steady start](https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2022/jan/01/romelu-lukaku-virgil-van-dijk-chelsea-liverpool) to the new season, Van Dijk is now operating at an elite level once more.

Discussing the best players right now on [talkSPORT (March 29, 9.50am)](https://talksport.com/radio/listen-again/1648530000/1648542600/), Bent, Ally McCoist and show host Laura Woods debated a number of Reds.

> We throw around the world-class tag way too easy these days. How many world-class players are there in the Premier League? Van Dijk is a world-class defender, he is the best in the world.

Bent also added Mohamed Salah and Alisson to the list whilst McCoist went on to hail [Andy Robertson](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/02/11/pundit-praises-great-interaction-between-liverpool-duo/) as a ‘top international class’ left-back.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Well, Van Dijk’s inclusion in the very highest echelons is a no brainer.

Not only has the Dutchman [transformed Jurgen Klopp’s side](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7813401/How-Virgil-van-Dijk-transformed-Liverpool-prepares-make-100th-appearance.html) from nearly men to serial winners, but he is threatening to achieve even greater heights this season.

Many Kopites will argue a case for each and every member of the [current squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) to be branded world-class in their own right.

However, those previously mentioned alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho and Sadio Mane would all have a [serious case](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10662765/Dani-Alves-names-Liverpools-world-class-Trent-Alexander-Arnold-favourite-right-back.html) to put forwards.
