# Pundit labels reported Liverpool target Gavi as a ‘maestro’

Former Premier League striker Gary Lineker has hailed Barcelona midfielder [Gavi](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/08/virals-liverpool-reportedly-keen-on-barcelona-starlet-gavi/) as a ‘maestro’ during the UEFA Nations League final.

This comes after Spanish outlet [El Nacional](https://www.elnacional.cat/es/deportes/joan-laporta-clausula-gavi-barca_654314_102.html) claimed that [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/11/virals-liverpool-keeping-tabs-on-norwich-star-todd-cantwell/) were interested in the 17-year-old sensation.

The teenager was making just a [second appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavi/nationalmannschaft/spieler/646740/verein_id/3375) for Spain at senior level as France lifted the trophy in Milan.

In the midst of the action, Lineker took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/1447282387117879302) to label the starlet as ‘Spain’s new midfield maestro’.

Unsurprisingly, Gavi’s statistics backed up the praise as [Squawka Football](https://twitter.com/Squawka) outlined the midfielder’s outstanding influence.

Having [transferred from Real Betis](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavi/transfers/spieler/646740) to the Catalan giants in 2015, Gavi is a late product of the famous La Masia academy system.

This season the Spaniard has [provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavi/leistungsdaten/spieler/646740) in seven first-team outings across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Lineker is spot on here, Spain and Barcelona alike certainly look to have the next in a [long line of midfield stars](https://www.football-espana.net/2020/11/16/10-greatest-spanish-footballers-of-all-time) on their hands.

Liverpool should be monitoring the situation with great interest as a [mooted €50million (£42.4million) release clause](https://www.goal.com/en/news/barcelona-gavi-50m-release-clause-17-year-old-history/1i0m815w6xksl1esn2q516qaa4) remains in play.

Capable of playing in a [variety](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/646740) of positions, Gavi currently has the world at his feet and a move to Anfield would be a sensation coup for the club.
