# Pundit lauds ‘excellent’ ace as Liverpool overcome Inter Milan in UCL

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/02/16/virals-liverpool-named-among-four-suitors-for-ac-milan-star-franck-kessie/) took one ginormous step into the UEFA Champions League last eight with a 2-0 away victory over Inter Milan.

Despite not being at their fluent but for the most part, it was a European performance [full of poise and pedigree](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/60393296) in the San Siro.

Having struggled to get going in the second half, Jurgen Klopp rang the changes and soon after goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah [changed the complex](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11854/12293076/inter-milan-win-serie-a-title-and-end-juventus-nine-year-reign-as-italian-champions) of the evening.

However, it was the performance of one man in particular that [caught the eye](https://twitter.com/Carra23/status/1494072117851213828) of former Anfield favourite Jamie Carragher.

> Great result for [@LFC](https://twitter.com/LFC?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) in the San Siro again & I thought [@IbrahimaKonate\_](https://twitter.com/IbrahimaKonate_?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) was excellent! [#InterLiverpool](https://twitter.com/hashtag/InterLiverpool?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

The 22-year-old earned an impressive [7.50 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/ibrahima-konate/826215) for a display containing clearance, four interceptions and two blocked shots.

Konate wasn’t the only centre-back to [impress](https://twitter.com/Carra23/status/1494091797890584583) Carragher, as himself a former defender the pundit always has an eye for the arts.

> Great result tonight [#INTLIV](https://twitter.com/hashtag/INTLIV?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) but this was my highlight of the night [@NoContextJMatip](https://twitter.com/NoContextJMatip?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) 👀😂😂 [pic.twitter.com/d6r6Q8bIUP](https://t.co/d6r6Q8bIUP)

Another classic for No Context Joel Matip there!

At this [stage](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/) of the competition, results are all that truly matter, performances are simply a bonus.

This result should prove to be all-important when the [Serie A title holders](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11854/12293076/inter-milan-win-serie-a-title-and-end-juventus-nine-year-reign-as-italian-champions) arrive on Merseyside.

Konate was simply outstanding alongside Virgil van Dijk. The young Frenchman continues to produce [elite-level showings](https://www.sofascore.com/player/ibrahima-konate/826215) when called upon despite a lack of regular game time.

One plot on the evening was the [ankle ligament problem](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1567295/Liverpool-news-Jurgen-Klopp-Diogo-Jota-injury-ankle-ligaments-Inter-Milan) suffered by Diogo Jota. This weekend’s game again Norwich City may well come too soon for a return, but the Portuguese star will be desperate to be fit for the Carabao Cup final.
