# Pundit makes bizarre ‘bright future’ claim about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Former Tottenham striker Garth Crooks has bizarrely suggested Alex Oxlade-Chamberlian could have a ‘bright future’ at [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/11/01/virals-liverpool-considering-a-move-for-real-madrid-outcast-luka-jovic/).

This comes after the 28-year-old [assisted the second goal](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/447862-watch-highlights-liverpool-brighton-premier-league) against Brighton & Hove Albion having come on as a first-time substitute.

Despite the high-quality delivery for Sadio Mane’s header, it was an otherwise [difficult afternoon](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jordan-henderson-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-22018113) for the midfielder.

Speaking on [Final Score](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/58124032), Crooks claimed that Oxlade-Chamberlain still possesses the ability to succeed at Anfield.

> It was a superb ball. A wonderful ball. It was outstanding. It’s a chance for Alex to come in, who has had a difficult time since his injuries. Perhaps he might have a run of two or three games. They need him now because they have injury issues. If he can start playing balls like that then he can have a bright future at that football club.

Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp is now likely to be without Harvey Elliott, James Milner and [Naby Keita for the foreseeable](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/c5nn2z48x78o) future.

That leaves the returning [Thiago and Fabinho](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/447798-injury-update-naby-keita-thiago-alcantara-and-fabinho-latest) to join Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones and Oxlade-Chamberlain as existing midfield options.

Clearly still a player with the ability to [impact games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdaten/spieler/143424) at the top level, it remains imminently possible the ex-Arsenal ace will have a role to play on Merseyside moving forwards.

However, given the evident [defensive frailties](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/84146/Show/Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain) on show on Saturday and an unfortunately checkered injury record, claiming a ‘bright future’ is on the horizon seems fanciful.

Perhaps continued use from the bench and in domestic cup competitions is the more likely squad role as the [35-cap Englishman](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/nationalmannschaft/spieler/143424/verein_id/3299) continues to fight for any sort of future beyond this season.
