# Pundit raises concerns about future of Liverpool youngster Brewster

Rhian Brewster could end up heading out on loan again next season, according to former Premier League Golden Boot winner Kevin Phillips.

The 20-year-old struggled for playing time at Liverpool early in the campaign, making just [three appearances](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/1316) in total.

Brewster was subsequently loaned out to Swansea City in January, where he has scored four goals in 11 matches.

In an interview with [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/weve-seen-it-before-with-derby-county-exclusive-kevin-phillips-makes-rhian-brewster-claim/), Phillips said that he believes another spell away from Anfield makes sense for the youngster next year:

> For his progression, what they are doing with loaning him out is spot on. We have seen it before with the lads that went to Derby under Frank and they are now flying at their respective clubs.

> Klopp obviously thinks highly of him because they have not sold him. He is developing under a manager that has a great track record for bringing players on and working with young players.

> But is he going to play in that team every week next season? No, he is not. So, I can see another loan.

I think this season has shown that the [serious knee and ankle injuries](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2018/03/rhian-brewster-injury-layoff-extended-after-undergoing-second-operation/) Brewster suffered have been difficult to come back from.

I felt that he could be a key squad member for Liverpool last summer, but instead, he looked off the pace when given a chance to impress, barely looking like scoring.

His Swansea loan will hopefully help him progress, though, and I agree with Phillips’ verdict, that a further spell away from Liverpool would be beneficial.

There has to be some doubt about Brewster’s long-term future at Anfield, in my opinion, with Jurgen Klopp’s men going from strength to strength all the time.

They are in a situation where squad players need to be reliable at the top level – something Brewster is yet to prove – and the Reds are reportedly eyeing up the likes of [Timo Werner](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/03/04/werner-really-wants-liverpool-move/) and [Jadon Sancho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/04/01/maddock-provides-key-update-on-sanchos-future/) as additions to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

He remains very young, and certainly shouldn’t be written off, but he could do with finding another gear in the next 12 months.
