# Quality over quantity, insists Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool’s summer transfer dealings will focus on quality rather than quantity.

After the Reds lost Luis Suárez to Barcelona last year, eight new faces arrived at Anfield, many of whom have flattered to deceive in their first campaign on Merseyside.

But Rodgers, under some scrutiny after a third season without silverware, is adamant that Liverpool won’t make the same mistakes this time around.

***“We won’t have the numbers coming in like we had last summer,”*** the Ulsterman told *talkSPORT*. ***“If we can make a couple of specific signings that will hopefully give us a little boost.***

***“We couldn’t replace what was lost in the team last year. We’ve brought in some really good young players and they will improve and develop.***

***“Every team in the summer will look to improve again and we’re no different.”***

The Reds, who appear certain to fall short of a place in the top four this season, have already missed out on Dutch winger Memphis Depay, after the 21-year-old agreed to join Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven.

Burnley forward Danny Ings, whose contract expires at Turf Moor in July, is destined for Anfield according to *The Times*, who also claim that Liverpool are interested in Aston Villa’s Belgian striker Christian Benteke.

*The Mirror* have reported that James Milner is set to join the Reds on a contract worth £100,000 a week.

Divock Origi will join the Reds after being loaned back to Lille last season, but Iago Aspas, currently on loan at Sevilla, is expected to join the Spaniards on a permanent transfer after scoring 10 goals in all competitions for Umai Emery’s side this season.

In addition to Steven Gerrard’s move to MLS and the probable departures of Glen Johnson and Brad Jones; Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have all been linked with moves away from Merseyside.
