# Reds eye Nigerian youngster Onyekuru

Liverpool are interested in 19-year old Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru, but face competition from Southampton and Bournemouth.

Onyekuru plays for Belgian side Eupen and has been watched by Liverpool scouts in recent weeks, [The Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4406930/Liverpool-scout-19-year-old-forward-Henry-Onyekuru.html) reports.

The youngster has scored 17 goals this season and contributed a further seven assists, catching the eye across the Channel.

His goal tally is all the more impressive given that he is predominantly a left-winger, though he can also play in the centre forward role or on the right.

Celtic reportedly lodged a £1 million bid in January but failed to meet Eupen’s asking price of £4 million, prompting Onyekuru to go on temporary strike in an effort to force through a move.

It is understood that the Jupiler Pro League outfit are willing to sell the starlet this summer for a fee in the region of £6.8 million.

Onyekuru could become the latest prospect to join the Liverpool ranks, with the likes of Ben Woodburn and Trent Alexander-Arnold emerging as future stars this season.

Jurgen Klopp will have to look elsewhere for young talent after the club were handed a two-year ban on signing domestic academy players.
