# Reds wait on Gerrard

**UPDATE**

Gerrard is facing a fight to be fit for the Capital Cup 1st leg vs. Chelsea next week as he hasn’t yet recovered from his ‘tight hamstring’ suffered at Sunderland.

He’s likely to miss this weekend’s visit to Villa Park which will leave him very little time to recover for the fixture with Mourinho’s side.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping he an be fit, what with Joe Allen’s injury issues and Emre Can’s new found centre-back prowess.

Liverpool expect to find out within **24 hours** whether captain **Steven Gerrard** will be available for Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa.

Having helped tee up Lazar Markovic for the winning goal against Sunderland at the weekend, the 34-year-old was withdrawn at half-time due to a **tight hamstring**.

The Reds will be without Adam Lallana (thigh) and Joe Allen (knee) for the trip to the West Midlands, so **Brendan Rodgers** is hopeful that the club’s leading scorer this season will be given the green light.

**Raheem Sterling** will return to training during the week after a 10-day break in Jamaica, and should feature at Villa.

**Daniel Sturridge**’s comeback is also edging closer. The 25-year-old – who registered 24 goals for Liverpool last season – was at Melwood on Monday.

The England striker won’t be rushed back into the team, but Rodgers is confident that he’ll be fit for selection by the end of the month.
