# Reliable journalist confirms Clyne and Lallana’s likely summer exits

Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana are expected to leave Liverpool this summer, according to the *[Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpool-transfer-news-mbappe-sancho-havertz-summer-melissa-reddy-a9314306.html)*‘s Melissa Reddy.

The report claims that they the are only two players who will move on, as Jurgen Klopp keeps the vast majority of his squad together.

Reddy believes it could be a ‘quiet summer’ at Anfield in general, despite also [confirming](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpool-transfer-news-mbappe-sancho-havertz-summer-melissa-reddy-a9314306.html) Liverpool’s interest in Kai Havertz, Jadon Sancho and Kylian Mbappe.

I think allowing Clyne and Lallana to leave is the correct decision, with both looking like they could struggle to get regular game time in the future.

That particularly applies to Clyne, who hasn’t started for Liverpool since the [5-1 win over Arsenal](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46656883) in December 2018.

Not only has Trent Alexander-Arnold shown him up in an attacking sense – he has [more assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/318871/Show/Trent-Alexander-Arnold) this season than Clyne in his [entire Premier League career](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69375/History/Nathaniel-Clyne) – but a cruciate ligament injury could also have taken an edge off his game.

Clyne could likely do a solid job at a lower-ranked team, but not at the European and soon-to-be Premier League champions.

Lallana has been more useful this season, in fairness, scoring a [late equaliser at Manchester United](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50030956), but he is seemingly far down the pecking order too.

The likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all ahead of him in the midfield pecking order, so it is hard to see where playing time will come from moving forward.

It is worth stressing that the 31-year-old has still only scored one league goal since May 2017 and his fitness issues are also problematic.

If these are the only two likely exits for Liverpool, then we can probably only expect one or two incomings too.
