# Report: Journalist claims Gini Wijnaldum has an agreement with Inter Milan

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/?p=115795) midfielder[Gini Wijnaldum](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/26/ac-milan-keen-on-summer-move-for-liverpool-star-gini-wijnaldum/) reportedly has an agreement in place with Serie A side Inter Milan according to Italian journalist Sandro Sabatini as per [Inter 1908](https://www.fcinter1908.it/primo-piano/top-stretta-mano/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-player-given-handshake-move-away-reds-summer-window/)).

Wijnaldum’s future at Liverpool has[been debated for some time now](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9172647/Liverpools-Georginio-Wijnaldum-reveals-future-air.html#:~:text=Liverpool%20midfielder%20Georginio%20Wijnaldum%20has,closer%20to%20resolving%20his%20future.&text=Advertisement-,The%2030%2Dyear%2Dold's%20future%20is%20up%20in%20the%20air,with%20the%20Premier%20League%20champions.) as the Dutchman’s contract expires at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old captained the Reds during the[2-0 victory over Sheffield United](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2021/feb/28/sheffield-united-v-liverpool-premier-league-live) and remains an [integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side](https://www.sofascore.com/player/georginio-wijnaldum/22126) despite uncertainty over his future on Merseyside.

Sabatini meanwhile believes there is no question regarding where the midfielder’s future lies:

> ”From what I know Inter already have a handshake with Wijnaldum, already from last year. Then they decided to do it on a free transfer.”

In a season[littered with injuries](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/liverpool-injuries-which-players-are-out-when-will-they/180055299z10c110h1epjsvvad), Wijnaldum has been one of the few to remain fit and has appeared in a staggering[36 matches in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdaten/spieler/49499) already – only Andy Robertson has [played more Premier League minutes](https://www.footballcritic.com/premier-league/season-2020-2021/player-stats/all/decisive/minutes-played/2/41756) for the Reds.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Losing a player [valued at £36m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/marktwertverlauf/spieler/49499) is always likely to sting a little, especially as Liverpool plot their own summer transfer spending.

[Retaining Wijnaldum](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2021/02/27/liverpool-have-offered-midfielder-significant-pay-rise-to-tie-down-future/), however, would be a huge boost for Liverpool as it would mean [saving on a replacement](https://www.football365.com/news/gossip-liverpool-add-to-wijnaldum-replacement-shortlist)as well as keeping a player who has proven he still has plenty to offer.

Although he may not be the most glamorous of the Reds’ midfielders, his [work rate and endeavour](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/33568/Show/Georginio-Wijnaldum) in the central positions allows other players to flourish whilst he does their heavy lifting.

Ability aside, the[70-cap ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/nationalmannschaft/spieler/49499/verein_id/3379)has shown this season more than ever just how important prolonged availability can be and at times, the Liverpool midfield [would’ve had a whole new look about it](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56242967) were it not for Wijnaldum.
