# Report: Liverpool to be ‘offered’ Sporting Lisbon starlet Nuno Mendes

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/04/liverpool-in-four-way-tussle-to-sign-erling-haaland-claims-journalist/) are reportedly set to be ‘offered’ the opportunity to sign Sporting Lisbon starlet [Nuno Mendes](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/21/liverpool-have-made-concrete-approach-for-right-back-nuno-mendes/) this summer according to Portuguese outlet [O Jogo](https://www.ojogo.pt/futebol/1a-liga/sporting/noticias/nuno-mendes-para-vender-a-fasquia-estalebecida-pelo-sporting-e-os-interessados-13412115.html).

A player of[long-standing interest](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/sporting-tie-left-back-to-new-deal-raise-exit-fee-liverpool-enquiry)to the Reds, Mendes could be set to make way as the [Liga Nos leaders](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/portuguese-primeira-liga/table)look to balance their books.

Having [reportedly seen an offer rejected](https://twitter.com/brunoandrd/status/1347531844271681538?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1347531844271681538%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.football365.com%2Fnews%2Fsporting-lisbon-reject-e25m-liverpool-bid-nuno-mendes) for the 18-year-old in January, Liverpool could return for Mendes, who has a [release clause of €70m](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/man-utd-interest-nuno-mendes-sporting-release-clause) written into his contract.

Sporting are believed to be resigned to selling their asset for less than that fee, although they still [expect to receive a large sum](https://www.transfermarkt.com/nuno-mendes/marktwertverlauf/spieler/616341) with Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid also interested.

This season the teenage sensation has continued his meteoric rise and has made [17 league appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nuno-mendes/leistungsdaten/spieler/616341)earning an average [Sofascore rating of 7.11](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nuno-mendes/989768).

With four[Portugal Under 21](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nuno-mendes/nationalmannschaft/spieler/616341/verein_id/16374) caps to his name and[32 senior club outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nuno-mendes/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/616341), Mendes has been performing beyond his years for some time.

Liverpool’s recruitment entourage will be very interested in this revelation having [tracked the hugely-talented teenager](https://metro.co.uk/2020/09/17/arsenal-liverpool-transfer-sporting-lisbon-nuno-mendes-lfc-13286349/) for a while.

Despite the signing of Kostas Tsimikas last summer as an understudy for Andy Robertson, the Greek has[barely featured.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/konstantinos-tsimikas/leistungsdaten/spieler/338070)

Therefore, Mendes has to be seen as the ideal long-term replacement for the Scot given his[wing-back proficiency](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/395221/Show/Nuno-Mendes).

Whilst another left-back will be relatively[low on the list of priorities at Anfield](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12213407/liverpools-summer-targets-who-could-jurgen-klopp-sign) this summer, given the previous interest, it’s hard to believe the Reds won’t be in the mix once again.
