# Rhys Williams “should be okay” for Leicester clash, claims journalist

[Rhys Williams](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/11/14/liverpool-fans-hail-rhys-williams-after-dominant-showing-for-england-u21s/) “should be okay” for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Leicester City, according to the *[Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/)*‘s Ian Doyle on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/IanDoyleSport/status/1328816926647259139?s=20).

Jurgen Klopp has a [number of injury problems](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/sperrenundverletzungen/verein/31) on his plate going into Sunday’s visit of the table-topping Foxes, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez all definitely out.

There was [no sign of Fabinho in training](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-training-thiago-alcantara-fabinho-19298533) on Tuesday, which could also suggest he won’t be available. Should that be the case, Williams could partner Joel Matip at centre-back, [having impressed](https://www.90min.com/posts/rhys-williams-aiming-to-become-irreplaceable-liverpool-after-impressing-against-atalanta-champions-league) in the 5-0 win away to Atalanta.

There were concerns when the 19-year-old was left out of England under-21s’ clash with Albania on Tuesday night, but it was more precautionary than anything, with [minor stiffness](https://twitter.com/CaoimheSport/status/1328816093352382473?s=20) the only issue according to manager Aidy Boothroyd.

The hope is that Fabinho is fit to play alongside Matip against a dangerous Leicester attack, simply because of his experience and quality. Should the Brazilian not be available, however, this could be a wonderful opportunity for Williams to prove himself.

He looks a more rounded footballer than Nathaniel Phillips, despite being four years younger – he is better on the ball for starters, enjoying an [86.5% pass completion rate](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/401782/History/Rhys-Williams) this season, compared to Phillips’ [80.5%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/381527/Show/Nathaniel-Phillips) – and his ceiling appears to be higher.

Given the injuries affecting Liverpool, Williams should see the coming weeks as a perfect chance to show he can be trusted regularly.
