# Robbie Fowler believes Liverpool should be considering Ollie Watkins move

Former [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/09/virals-liverpool-have-made-contact-regarding-rodrigo-de-paul/) striker Robbie Fowler believes the Reds should be looking at Aston Villa ace [Ollie Watkins](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/04/24/pundit-claims-ollie-watkins-would-be-brilliant-for-liverpool/) this summer.

This comes after [reports](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-blistering-ollie-watkins-aston-villa-transfer) linked Jurgen Klopp with a possible move for the 25-year-old, signed from Brentford for £28million in September ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54080315)).

Klopp is expected to enter the market at the end of the season, with a striker perhaps a priority due to Roberto Firmino’s [dip in form](https://www.goal.com/en/news/klopp-explains-firminos-struggles-and-backs-liverpool-star/1sgleiqp7yq9n1pwg60xg78ynp) and the [reported departure](https://twitter.com/jamespearcelfc/status/1331879506022461440?lang=en-gb) of Divock Origi.

Writing in his *[Sunday Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jurgen-klopp-ollie-watkins-liverpool-24069094)* column, Fowler, who played [369 times](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/301) for the Reds, has tipped the Anfield club and major rivals to take a keen interest in Watkins.

Because what do the top teams want? A forward who performs a crucial pressing role. Manchester City, Liverpool, United, Chelsea. They all want a striker who performs the press with energy and intelligence and does more than one job.

The 46-year-old Toxteth born Liverpool icon went on to suggest the [13 Premier League goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ollie-watkins/leistungsdaten/spieler/324358) Villa man has what it takes to succeed at the ‘very top level’.

Signing Watkins may seem to many a strange one given the circles many expect the Reds to carry out their transfer business in.

However, in the main, this would be [exactly the type of deal](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-news-klopp-swap-20539027) that has become synonymous with Klopp’s reign – in particular with Michael Edwards at the recruitment drive wheel.

[Valued at £28.80million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ollie-watkins/marktwertverlauf/spieler/324358), the recently-capped England man would fetch a fee in the region of the [£41million Liverpool shelled out](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54214671) for Diogo Jota to fellow Midlanders, Wolves.
