# Robbie Fowler tips Mohamed Salah to win the 2018 Ballon d’Or

The last time a player other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo won the prestigious Ballon d’Or award was in 2007 when AC Milan star Kaka was voted as the world’s best footballer, but Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler thinks the Messi and Ronaldo streak could be about to end.

Fowler wrote on [social media](https://twitter.com/Robbie9Fowler/status/984373663909769216)that he expects current Reds’ star Mohamed Salah to make a strong push for the award this year.

Salah’s debut season for Liverpool has been nothing short of sensational. He’s scored 39 goals, including the vital goal in the second-leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash with Manchester City.

Salah also scored the goal which sent Egypt to the World Cup and he will be their star man in Russia this summer.

The last time a Premier League based player won the award was in 2008, when Ronaldo was still on the books of Manchester United. The last Liverpool player to win the Ballon d’Or was Michael Owen in 2001 whist George Weah is the only other African player to win the award, he won it in 1995.

Salah, if he continues his fine form, has the chance to end the wait for those three particular streaks to be broken.
