# Rodgers: We have not been “worked out”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says his side have not been “worked out”, and that the system doesn’t matter if you start slowly.

The 42-year old has also dismissed suggestions that his side suffer from a mental block in the must-win games.

Their loss at Arsenal on Saturday makes Champions League qualification look almost impossible, with last season’s Premier League runners-up now seven points off the top four with seven games remaining.

Recent displays have also brought Rodgers’ 3-4-2-1 formation – which had worked immaculately in recent months – into question.

***“I don’t think it’s about being worked out. We didn’t start well (against Arsenal), and it doesn’t matter what system you are playing if that happens,”*** the Ulsterman told the *Liverpool Echo*.

***“The last two games we’ve played, or the last four really, we haven’t created much, and that is on ourselves. Of course you can give the opposition credit, for pressing and defending well, but we haven’t created as much, and that is something we want to reinforce.***

***“It’s a difficult system to play against, but it’s one of a number of systems we’ve played here and played very well.***

***“It’s my job to always look to find solutions. That’s what I’ve tried to do in the games where we haven’t played well and haven’t looked like scoring. It’s about finding a way to win.”***

Liverpool have won just one out of seven matches against the four sides above them in the league this season; a record that has been a huge stumbling block in the Reds’ attempts to climb the table.

***“I don’t think it’s a mental barrier that the team has,”*** Rodgers added.

***“It’s just something that we need to continue and develop as a team. It’s a very difficult challenge, if you look at the four teams above us at the moment.***

***“We have to strive to have no excuses, and continue to work hard to get back in there again.***

***“We are at where we’re at. We’re sat in fifth place. This has been a very up and down season, but that happens in football.”***

Liverpool take on Blackburn Rovers in an FA Cup quarter-final replay at Ewood Park on Wednesday night; a game that carries huge significance for the Reds’ season as they look to secure a trip to Wembley.

Rodgers continued: ***“It’s important to have a game quickly when you lose. We’ve worked very hard to put ourselves into the position we were in before the Manchester United game, and to lose the next two games has not put us in a good place.***

***“But we’re honest enough as a group to focus and analyse that we didn’t perform well enough, and when you don’t against top quality squads, you will lose. But that’s gone, now.***

***“The players are fresh and focused and ready to get a result. We’ve got a good couple of days to prepare (for Blackburn Rovers), and we will take that into the game. The FA Cup was always an objective for us this season, and would mark another step forward for us.”***
