# Savage: Virgil van Dijk is the best centre back in the world

Virgil van Dijk has been heralded as the best centre back in the world by former Premier League player, now BBC pundit, Robbie Savage.

Liverpool’s defensive record since Van Dijk arrived at the club has been superb and the club are yet to concede a single goal this season and haven’t let a league goal in at Anfield since Michail Antonio slotted past Loris Karous during a 4-1 for the Reds in February 2018.

Van Dijk, along with defensive partner Joe Gomez and goalkeeper Alisson Becker, has earned plenty of plaudits from fans and pundits alike and Savage paid the former Southampton star the ultimate respect by saying that he’s the best on the planet,

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Savage said:

> Van Dijk is the best centre-half in the world at the moment.

There are some great central defenders in the world at the moment, so to be called the best is a huge honour for Van Dijk. *\*
