# Spartak Moscow charged for racist behaviour against Liverpool youngster

Russian club Spartak Moscow have been charged by UEFA after alleged racist behaviour towards Liverpool youngster Bobby Adekanye during last week’s UEFA Youth League match, according to a report on [ITV News](https://www.itv.com/news/update/2017-10-04/spartak-moscow-charged-by-uefa-for-racist-chants/).

The youngster was introduced as a substitute and that is when the incident is reported to have occurred.

Liverpool complained that Adekanye, a second-half substitute in the 2-1 defeat for Steven Gerrard’s Under-19 side, had racially-motivated noises directed at him following his introduction.

There was the alleged use of monkey noises hurled towards him, which prompted Liverpool to lodge an official complaint to the European governing body.

UEFA have now opened disciplinary proceedings against Spartak, with a hearing to be held on October 19th, led by UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body.

Spartak have already been in trouble with UEFA this year and were fined £53,156 after the first round of Champions League group stage fixtures when supporters threw a flare at the referee during their 1-1 draw with Maribor.

This resulted in the club being banned from selling any away tickets for their trip to Sevilla.
