Liverpool came from behind to secure a 2-1 win against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium last week.
After Keane Lewis-Potter’s opener, Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak struck in the second half to turn the tide in the Reds’ favour.
After Brentford went down to ten men after Vitaly Janelt’s red card, Florian Wirtz really came into his own and delivered a fantastic performance.
The German international also played a big part in Munoz’s equaliser, providing the assist for the goal.
And Jamie Carragher, who has been so critical of Wirtz in recent weeks, has signed him out for special praise.
Jamie Carragher lauds Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz
“Lots of players can scan, it’s a big part of the game now,” said Carragher via Sky Sports.
“But you can scan before the ball is on its way to you because you know you’re going to get that pass.
“What makes this extra special is the ball is now passed, he checks his right shoulder, then his left shoulder, and the ball is on him.
“The scanning and the first touch is the assist! Not so much the pass – it’s a simple pass for Wirtz. The scanning and the actual touch deserve the assist, not the actual pass.”
Wirtz has really come into his own over the past two games and will look to carry on in the same vein tonight vs Villarreal.
