# Sterling reveals pressure at Liverpool in 2013/14

Raheem Sterling has hinted that Liverpool’s supporters almost had an adverse affect on their 2013/14 Premier League title challenge.

Sterling was still a teenager when he starred for the Reds under Brendan Rodgers, prior to his move to Manchester City.

It was City who ended up prevailing in 2013/14, with Liverpool falling short in heartbreaking fashion.

The pressure on the players to deliver was immense, with a long wait for a league title a key reason for that.

Jurgen Klopp’s current squad are experiencing that same thing this season, as they go head-to-head with Sterling’s City.

Speaking to [https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/11651014/raheem-sterling-says-he-felt-more-pressure-in-title-race-with-liverpool-than-man-city](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/11651014/raheem-sterling-says-he-felt-more-pressure-in-title-race-with-liverpool-than-man-city)*[Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/11651014/raheem-sterling-says-he-felt-more-pressure-in-title-race-with-liverpool-than-man-city)*, the England international says there isn’t the same level of pressure at the Etihad, suggesting it proved problematic at Anfield five years ago:

> When I was there I did feel a lot more pressure than when I’m here, with matchdays and the fans.

> I think that they get to us a little bit. We were in control and we had the opportunity to see it through but we didn’t do that.

> Here we’re completely focused on each game and trying to win each game as it comes.

> It’s a complete different scenario from last year – last year we were a bit more comfortable towards this point of the season.

> They’ve been playing some good football at times but we’re confident in ourselves and we’ve got the belief.

> This year it’s a complete turnaround and we’re the ones who are chasing. It’s really close at the moment but I have full belief in the squad.

Some may argue that it is simply mind games from Sterling, as he attempts to crank up the pressure on his former club.

The expectation levels are unrivalled with Liverpool, though, because it has been so long without league glory.

It they could get over the finish line in May, it would be one of the most significant moments in the club’s history.
