# Taiwo Awoniyi stretchered off with head injury

Liverpool’s Taiwo Awoniyi, currently on loan with Mainz, was stretchered off the field with what looked like a head/neck injury during their home game with Augsburg.

The 22-year-old was involved in a nasty collision, after which he landed awkwardly and after receiving lengthy treatment from medical staff, including the fitting of a neck brace, he was carried off the pitch for further treatment and assessment.

The forward appeared to be knocked out during the collision which meant that he suffered a nasty landing with no defensive bracing.

As of yet, there has been no word from Mainz about the Nigerian’s status as he continues to be assessed and treated by the club’s medical personnel.

Awoniyi originally signed for Liverpool in 2015 but has spent every year since on loan with various clubs.

He joined Mainz in the summer of 2019 and was granted permission to see the delayed season out with the Bundesliga side.
