# The Big Names in Europe Don’t Choose Liverpool Anymore – Hysen

Since the news broke last night that Raheem Sterling is likely to reject Liverpool’s new contract offer, many ex-players have been voicing their opinions.

The most recent of those players is Glenn Hysen. In an interview with Swedish media, Hysen stated that he understands why Sterling would want to leave Liverpool.

“*The big names in Europe don’t choose Liverpool anymore. Twenty years ago you could take that for granted but today they choose Bayern, Barcelona, City or Chelsea because they can win trophies there*,” said Hysen.

However, Hysen then went on to say that rejecting a contract worth £100,000 a week is simply ‘daft’.

“*£100,000 and he is still not satisfied? That’s just daft*“

Furthermore, the former Liverpool defender stated that Sterling would have to play regularly in order to fulfil his potential, something that may be unlikely at a club like Real Madrid, where a berth in the starting eleven is far from guaranteed.

“*He’ll get to play at Liverpool. If he chooses Real Madrid he’ll be on the bench. How fun is that? There is no limit to how great he can become, but to do so he has to play*.”
