# Liverpool Player Ratings: Tottenham (A)

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/29/liverpool-fans-rejoice-virgil-van-dijk-injury-update/) returned to somewhere near their dominant best with an impressive [3-1 victory](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55744293) against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last night.

In keeping with the pattern of the season for the Reds, the performance was tarnished by the loss of the last standing senior centre-back, [Joel Matip](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/28/liverpool-fans-are-devastated-after-klopps-update-on-matips-injury/), at half time. Nat Phillips replaced Matip at the break, and afterwards [Jurgen Klopp confirmed](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9199453/Liverpool-boss-Jurgen-Klopp-confirms-Joel-Matip-sustained-ankle-ligament-damage-win-vs-Tottenham.html) that the Cameroonian had suffered ankle ligament damage.

The injury blow didn’t perturb Klopp’s side as after a late first half goal from Roberto Firmino, plus second half strikes from Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold earned the champions the all-important win. Liverpool’s second half goals were separated by a stunning Pierre Emile Hojbjerg long-range finish.

The Reds are back in London for their next Premier League encounter as they take on West Ham on Sunday afternoon. Quirkily, all three of their away wins in the league this term have come in the capital.

By kick-off on Sunday, Klopp will hope to have either [secured a centre-back](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1390002/Liverpool-transfer-news-Jurgen-Klopp-centre-back-signing-Tottenham-Premier-League)arrival or, at the very least, be in the verge of doing so.
