# Van Dijk aims dig at Everton fans following 0-0 draw

Virgil van Dijk appeared to aim a dig at Everton supporters following Liverpool’s 0-0 draw away at Goodison Park on Sunday evening.

The defender spoke to Sky Sports after the stalemate and, as quoted by [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/virgil-van-dijk-criticises-everton-14082664), discussed how seemingly content the home supporters were to have held their bitter rivals.

Van Dijk was in typically impressive form in the Merseyside Derby but could do little to help his side avoid dropping points, as the Reds were wasteful in the final third of the pitch.

The Dutchman, accompanied by Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, stated that it ‘says a lot’ that Everton fans were celebrating the 0-0 draw at the final whistle. He said:

> Yes of course \[we are disappointed\]. We deserved the three points and it says a lot that they are celebrating. We had chances to win the game and did not finish them off. We go again.

> I like these kinds of games and we came here for three points and did not get them. It is time to recover and be ready for the next game.

> We focus on our next game, everyone wants to be top of the league and we cannot change the situation at the moment.

Liverpool now trail Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and have played the same number of matches as their title rivals.

The Reds will look to get back to winning ways next weekend when they welcome Burnley to Anfield.
