# Van Dijk credits team-mates for Player of the Season award

Virgil van Dijk has said he’s “honoured and proud” to be crowned the official Premier League Player of the Season for the 2018-19 season.

The award has been voted on by supporters, a panel of football experts and the captains of all 20 Premier League clubs, with Van Dijk the most popular pick.

Speaking to the [Premier League website](https://www.premierleague.com/news/1214766), the Dutchman explained how delighted he was to pick up another individual honour and paid tribute to his team-mates for their wonderful season:

> It’s a great honour and I’m very proud. Without everyone here at Liverpool, fans and players, it wouldn’t be possible so I will definitely give them credit for all of it as well. I think the whole season in the Premier League has been outstanding. The only thing is we have been competing with another team that’s pretty good. But I think it’s a joy to watch, this title race, for neutral fans.

Van Dijk has beaten Manchester City trio Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane to the award.

He’ll be completely focused on helping the Reds to one last win today though, whilst the club will be praying for Brighton & Hove Albion to get something from Manchester City at the same time down south.

Virgil van Dijk, Player of the Season; a worthy winner.
