# Virals: Adrian signs new Liverpool contract

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/14/virals-liverpool-face-major-competition-in-donyell-malen-pursuit/) goalkeeper [Adrian](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/16/virals-liverpool-reportedly-offer-adrian-a-new-contract/) has spoken of his pride after extending his time at Anfield by signing a new contract.

The Spaniard was due to become a free agent in the coming weeks and there was [uncertainty](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1440591/Liverpool-transfer-news-Adrian-contract-decision-possible-Spain-return) as to whether the stopper would stay on Merseyside.

However, the 34-year-old, signed as a free agent at the start of the Premier League title-winning 2019/20 campaign, has opted to remain a Red for a [reported](https://twitter.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1398174831351320577) two more years.

The experienced Liverpool man has agreed on a fresh deal with the Anfield club – having made [24 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adrian/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/71271) and lifted [three major trophies](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adrian/erfolge/spieler/71271) during his career under Jurgen Klopp.

Formerly of West Ham, the Spanish ‘keeper only made [six appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adrian/leistungsdaten/spieler/71271) across all competitions for the Reds in 2020/21.

With Alisson Becker’s unusually [high record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alisson/verletzungen/spieler/105470) of absence for a goalkeeper, Liverpool need a reliable backup – something in recent times Adrian has failed to provide.
