# Virals: Agent of Liverpool target Saul Niguez speaks out on transfer saga

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/17/virals-fringe-liverpool-trio-viewed-as-dispensable-at-anfield/) have been extensively linked with Atletico Madrid midfielder [Saul Niguez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/17/virals-journalist-claims-saul-niguez-swap-deal-is-cooling-down/) in recent weeks as a possible replacement to Gini Wijnaldum.

The Reds looked to be close to landing the 26-year-old at one stage before Barcelona [proposed a swap deal](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12356402/antoine-griezmann-and-saul-niguez-barcelona-in-talks-with-atletico-madrid-over-swap-deal) involving Atletico icon Antoine Greizmann making a return to the Spanish capital.

As that deal seemingly stutters, Jurgen Klopp could return for Saul, albeit with [competition](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/antoine-griezmann-saul-niguez-barcelona-atletico-swap-deal-liverpool-chelsea-braced) from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Now, the agent of the midfielder, Joshua Barnett, has spoken out via [Dario AS](https://as.com/futbol/2021/07/16/primera/1626432524_068665.html?autoplay=1), as cited by [Liverpool FC News](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC/status/1416395280535195649) on Twitter, regarding the star’s future.

Barnett said: “Nothing has been decided, Saul has as many options to stay as to leave. Saul will do with his future what is best for Saul.”

Capped on [19 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148928/verein_id/3375) by Spain at senior level, the versatile midfield ace has until now been more or less a [one-club man](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/148928) – only spending a shirt spell on loan at Rayo Vallecano.

In 13 years with Atletico having made the switch from arch-rivals Real Madrid, Saul has made [337 first-team appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148928/verein/13) for Colchoneros.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing the [£36million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148928) Spaniard this summer would be a major coup for the Reds.

Predominantly a like for like replacement for Wijnaldum in Klopp’s squad, Saul offers more in the way of versatility having featured in more [advanced and defensive roles](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdaten/spieler/148928) as well as on either wing.

Whether the ace can oust Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and compatriot Thiago to be part of the [likely first choice trio](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-dream-midfield-jurgen-klopp-19778024) remains to be seen, but he certainly possesses the quality to do so.
